We hit up Cloudland owner, George Nagy this month for episode two of 'Twenty Questions With' to talk about all of the things you may not know about him, such as, his favourite place in Northampton, the places where he feels most creative, and of course, all things regarding his party tricks and favourite music albums. Be sure to go over and show George some love if you don't already follow him on @georgejnagy to keep up with everything he's doing!
Best advice you've ever been given
I can't pinpoint one piece of advice or one conversation that I constantly refer back to for me it's about constantly consuming the right content, surrounding myself with the right people, so I'm always receiving cool new thoughts and ideas.
How would your friends describe you in one word?
Driven.
What's your favourite thing about Northampton?
The creative community. It's underrated, but behind the mess of a town centre there's some cool people doing cool things.
What's something that instantly cheers you up?
I'm a pretty simple man. If I'm ever feeling shit I'll binge watch some Rick Rubin podcasts, that man's a genius, I could listen to him all day talking about creativity. I've got a Mrs that puts up with my waffling about Cloudland haha, she's great.
Weirdest DM you've ever received
Being told someone spotted me in public. I'd seen em staring at me and instead of saying anything they just sent me a photo of me standing about. It's not like I'm anything famous haha.
Favourite television character
Joey from Friends. Ultimate comfort show. My minds always going so I like watching Friends, it's just simple and easy to watch.
First thing you would grab in a house fire
I'd grab my hard drive, got so many bits I want the world to see, videos, photos and that. Maybe my signed Chelsea shirt after that.
Bougiest thing you've ever eaten
I'm not all that bougie. Get me a Greggs sausage roll or a Parmo and I'm happy.
Do you have a party trick?
Beer pong king, got ice in the veins.
You've just been handed a thousand pounds, what are you buying?
I'd buy a sewing machine. I want to start making cut and sew pieces for Cloud-land, think it's the only way for us to truly stand out. Eventually, I'd love us to have a workshop.
You have to make a three course meal, what are you making?
We've got a frozen garlic bread to start, I can make a banging spaghetti meatballs, and a banoffee pie to finish.
Where are you when you're most creative?
I'm most creative in the mornings. It's not particularly about where it's more about when. To be creative you gotta give yourself space and even though it feels unproductive or not like work. Travelling and new experiences informs your ideas and can inspire your next project.
Best childhood memory
Best childhood memory is easy, going to Stamford Bridge with my dad. Can't beat a day at football with the old man.
Favourite day of the year
Christmas. I'm still a little kid inside.
Who inspires you the most?
Answered this earlier but guess there’s a few. Rick Rubin is so chilled which is the polar opposite to me, I’m very emotional and can be impatient. So I’d like to take that trait from him. But I’d also add Little Simz and the Cole Buxton lads. Simz mainly cos she’s an introvert who puts on this loud brash demeanour on stage. That’s kinda like what Cloudland is for me, I’m quite a shy guy really.
What are your 2023 goals?
Sell out the next collection, host a rave for the brand and I've got a financial goal too but I'll keep that one quiet. Saying all that but I wanna be able to continue to graft whilst maintaining healthy relationships. My girlfriend and friends mean a lot to me.
Favourite holiday destination
Budapest. Fun exploring my Hungarian heritage, feels weirdly like a second home.
Your biggest realisation this year
I love this question. I think it's that I love working. As a videographer, as a brand owner even with my training, I'm always pushing myself. People will say "you've gotta take some time off" but this yeah I've learned I just love being busy and that there's nothing wrong with that. I'd always sort of force myself to go clubbing or whatever but it's never really suited me. Some people love clubbing, I love building my career and a business and it's okay to be 'boring' in other peoples eyes.
Favourite music album ever
Favourite album is either 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Simz or 'Forest Hills' by Cole.
What's something you wish you had skill in?
I wish I knew how to sew already, my grandma is talented. I wish I'd learnt that skill from her at a young age.
