if you’ve not managed to listen to ‘Real Back in Style’ this year, then where the hell have you been? The whole of the internet was behind this album the second it was announced, the rollout was perfect and the feeling when the album dropped was indescribable.
This album was announced and released while Potter was in prison, the news he was in prison broke the rap scene side of the internet as he wrote ‘I know you all may of heard i’m back in jail and some of you might be disappointed or upset. But don’t be. I’m not. I am who I am. This has always been the way. I have grown and changed so much but I will never not be me’. When the album was released in May, Potter was still inside, to show their passion for the people behind the walls in prison his team got speakers set up in the prison Potter was in during his time, giving them the first listen the whole way through the album.
The album itself is set up perfectly, from the flows to the storytelling, and the pain, a proper UK rap album, everything we could possibly need is in this album. There’s very little actually wrong with this album. It’s very small details that not a lot of other artists think of that make this album as special as it is, for example, the fact that the tracks ‘All My Life, If I Had’ and ‘A Million £’ link up perfectly and link very very well. Or the very clear, perfectly placed sound effects shown in tracks ‘Toy Story 2’ and ‘Money Or Victims (Kayla’s Story)’ as he paints a perfect picture.
How could this ever not be album of the year? Let us know down in the comments who takes your recognition for album of the year.
