Hi Kane, please could you re-introduce yourself for anyone who missed our last conversation?

Hi, I'm Kane Winehouse and I'm an artist/songwriter from Leicester.

And, what did the start of 2023 look like for you?

I was very present at the start of 2023, I was taking each day as it came, lots of life maintenance going on.

Where are you now, compared to then?

Still quite present right now I'd say. I have things I wanna achieve + get done in the back of my mind but I’m not quite there just yet, I’m on that trajectory anyhow, and keeping my mind present keeps me happy + fulfilled, it’s been a roller coaster of a year.

Did you have any goals set for the year?

I did, and that was to just keep creating and keep improving. I wanted to release an EP + expand my sound to a wider set of ears. I feel as though I‘ve done what I needed to do for the year. I’m fulfilled. 2024 I want to push myself even further + one up everything I did this year. There’s some very exciting things brewing. The love for making music is stronger than it’s ever been.

Do you often set goals for yourself or is it a case of whatever happens, happens?

A bit of both I’d say. The EP was one big planned goal for sure. I was trying to create something cohesive and stick to a narrative, so in that instance I needed to plan + set an intention and stay disciplined with the songs I was writing. The window I’m in right now creatively however is kind of whatever happens happens and it’s been fun because there’s no restrictions on the music that’s being made. My catalogue is gonna become a lot more fluid and fun going forward, the possibilities are endless.

Do you think goals are important?

Most definitely. Although I think smaller goals are the way. They’re gonna bridge the gap between square one and the end goal.

For sure, what are some of your favourite moments musically this year?

My favourite moments came when we were in the studio recording and finalising the EP. It feels so nostalgic to me already but it was so much fun. The team I’ve got around me are a bunch of absolute jokers so you can really let loose. We’re always in hysterics.

I love that. So far, what does 2024 look like for you?

2024 there will be a lot more drops. I have a really cool vision for the year. Ultimately it’s about having fun for me and I see so much more room for improvement and growth. I think this coming year could be a pivotal one in my career.

And, in terms of music, what have you learnt this year?

I’ve learnt a lot just in terms of my process, my approach towards making music by keeping an open mind and mixing with like-minded individuals and creatives. Open mindedness has by far been the best way to approach things, especially as a consumer of music. I’ve immersed myself in a range of genres this year, it has definitely rubbed off on me. You’ll see next year.

Absolutely, who's your artist of the year?

Artist of the year for me has to be Jordan Ward, I think a lot of other music-heads will have the same answer. If you haven’t already go give his album ‘FORWARD’ a spin it slaps! Loved 6LACK’s album this year as well and I loved loved loved what Chase Shakur, Larry June, and Lil Yatchty brought to music this year.

Is there anyone you wish you got more from musically this year?

Khalid. I was waiting for his new album and he only ended up dropping one single. Next year I’ll be ready.

And finally, is there anything you'd like to say to everyone that supported you this year?

Thank you for having faith in my vision. I’m satisfied as it is just writing and creating these songs, and keeping them for myself. I take the liberty of sharing them with you because I want you to feel something. Something that can nourish your mind and get you through the beautifully chaotic fluidity of life. I’m so so thankful for your ears. 2024 I hope to connect with you more in real life.
