Stormzy's most recent album "This Is What I Mean" dropped in November of this year and all of the stops have been pulled out to bring us his best work to date. Addressing things that the audience is eager to know, such as his previous rap beef with the likes of Wiley and Stormzy, when in "My Presidents Are Black" he raps "can't war with no broken man". He's saying why should he war with him, he's broke, but at the same time, it sounds like he's jabbing them once again.
Stormzy had some stuff to get off his chest and just speak his mind on the twelve-track album. He spoke a lot on relationships in the track "Hide & Seek" when he said "Don't wanna fight no more, Keep me where I belong, I've tried and I've tried, But I just can't hide from your love" and, in track "Firebabe" he rapped "She was standin' in her dress, And she was lookin' like an angel, Her eyes took away my breath, And that's when I knew she was mine until the end". These hard-hitting lines about his love life, are something we didn't hear when Stormzy made grime tracks in previous albums, especially his first album "Gang Signs & Prayer".
Superstar Stormzy launched a scheme to help young black people secure jobs and leadership roles for all levels of jobs in the game. He came out and said, "We barely see any black team managers, coaches, sports presenters - the list goes on". The organisation has been partnered with Adidas, Manchester United, Sky Sports, and Fulham FC, helping Stormzy be able to make football as diverse behind the scenes as it is on the pitch.
The news came out after Adidas released that only 6.7% of senior roles in football were held by black or mixed-heritage people. When Stormzy was told this during a Sky Sports interview, he described it as "embarrassing". Merky FC was introduced first by Adidas and is a multi-year partnership, due to kick off when the first career placement begins in the early stages of 2023.
If you want to apply to this project, fill out an application through the website. We can't wait to see where Merky FC will be in 2023.
