This morning we saw the release of highly anticipated album 'Real Back In Style' from none other than Potter Payper. The album itself was announced via Instagram on April 21st with a photo of the album cover and a long message from the rapper himself, letting his fans know that he is unfortunately back in prison, explaining that it's just in him to be this person, explaining his circumstances, signing off the message with "Same old PP". As this was announced, the comments were filled with all sorts of emotions from fans and friends of the rap star, for example, a whole lot of 'free Potter' mixed with a few different emojis, like the fire or the fingers crossing, sending him hope.
We have been keeping up with the roll out of this album and the promo that has been happening, even though he's been locked up. Yesterday we saw a video on Instagram of a phone voice recording from Potter himself as he spends his time in the cell. He then explains that there will be locations on release day for people to go to and purchase signed copies of the album, followed with merchandise and a chance to send him a letter while he's inside. We think this idea is amazing and isn't something that is seen a lot, showing that he can be really in touch with his fans, giving them a chance to do something that he can also physically see and keep. His clothing merchandise consists of a pair of socks, two t-shirts with different prints, and a hoodie. He is also selling ashtrays and toothbrushes, which is a new thing that we as fans don't see a lot of, as it's normally just a t-shirt, or a different item of clothing.
We particularly enjoyed listening to his two more storytelling tracks, 'Toy Story 2' and 'Money or Victims? (Kayla's Story)'. As he tells two very strong stories that he has experienced through life, 'Toy Story 2' is the perfect example of storytelling, the sound effects used in this track are chilling, the heartbeat noises, the sirens throughout, and the cable tie noises, it's incredible. The aggressive tone in his voice at the beginning moves into a natural sound as the track goes on. When you listen to the deeper story you can see that the star does have trust issues and we're able to learn a bit more about his feelings.
'Money or Victims? (Kayla's Story)' is also a beautiful track explaining his relationship with a woman as he grew up, explaining her struggles in life with some trauma she had with a family member. As the story goes on, Potter is able to sort him out and put him in the ground, protecting his good friend from the pain she may be feeling. The comments are also feeling this track too, for example, "one of the best songs he's ever made. Free Potter", "don't let this story go over your heads... Potter put Steve in the ground.", and "the system won't tear down potter's legacy". And we agree with all of them, Potter Payper has really made a masterpiece in this album.
Let us know in the comments below which track is your favourite. Make sure you stream and/or purchase the album to support Potter, and buy yourself something nice from his store.
