A massive thank you to Kamron for his time and efforts in speaking with us on his love for photography. Make sure you drop him a follow on @kjlmaox to keep up with all of the amazing things that are going to create this year!
Hey Kamron, please can you give an introduction as to who you are and what you do for those who aren't yet aware?
Hi, my name is Kamron and I'm a photographer, Videographer and creative based in Lancashire.
What does photography mean to you on a deeper level?
Photography has always been an important part of my life and it makes me want to meet other people who love and respect art as much as I do.
How did you start creating your creative portfolio?
I started out my creative account on Instagram as a place to document and share the projects I make, and then expanded to YouTube. I created a logo for them by drawing an abstract image of overlapping rooms.
Is there more of meaning behind your logo?
Yeah, it's based on the idea of memory and how over time memories can be distorted. It's a concept I wanted to emulate as it displays that the human imagination is constantly at work. It's confusing but I think my logo means to keep the memories and ideas you have in one place, which I do by documenting them. I always include my logo within my projects with some variation.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from lots of different areas like films, music, directors and are pieces, but most of the time it comes from an idea I have and the fun is seeing how I can bring that idea to life. If I had to name some of my favourite inspirations, they would have to be Hiro Murai, Devonte Hynes, and Heath Ledger.
Do you have a favourite type of photography?
My favourite type has to be film photography, I love the textures and colours film brings out, lots of my favourite photographers shoot with film so it made me want to try experiment with shot composition and contrast in my images. Nothing beats Black and white photography for me though it’s just really nice to look at.
What sort of equipment do you normally use for production?
For my photography, I mostly shoot with my digital camera as it creates a really sharp image, I have been experimenting with different kinds of film, such as 35mm, and 120mm.
Do you have any recommendations in terms of equipment?
To be honest when I started my photography I just used my phone and then my big jump into buying my first digital camera was my Canon4000D, it was the most expensive camera I bought when I started my photography, I still use it after all these years later, it’s my go to camera for when I’m photographing events and my landscape photography. I understand that the Canon4000D is £400 and lots of people can’t afford that and that’s why I didn’t get into photography sooner in the first place, so I would recommend rooting around charity shops and vintage stores to find the cheapest cameras you could find, it’s not about the camera it’s about the photographer, how you use a camera is really important not how much it costs.
What's the goal for you?
I ultimately want to be as creative and inspiring as possible throughout my life, as I think if we can all inspire one another, then we can grow as a community so much more effectively. I find a lot of our imaginative boundaries are self-inflicted, so seeing others out there simply doing what makes them happy is the most beautiful thing of all.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to get into photography?
My advice for anybody who wants to get into photography would be to not worry about if you don’t have the flashiest equipment or the most expensive cameras, because lots of my favourite cameras to shoot with are the cheapest ones that I found in charity shops and vintage stores, I think if you want to get into photography you should start now, you’ll be thankful that you did start sooner and develop your style and craft, it’s all about the journey and you need to start somewhere.
Do you have anyone you would like to shout out?
The first photographer you should check out would be @jpegloz, She’s a London based photographer who shoots lots of live shows and upcoming artists she’s such a lovely person when I met her and she was a great inspiration to me in my photography! Definitely go check her out. my second photographer I recommend would be @thisphotodoesntexist who’s digital photography I always go back to and look at to admire, my favourites by them are the photos that have a purple tint to them there’s something about the colours and composition of his photos that inspire me. Lastly you should check out @craigszlatoszlavek who I briefly met him at a gig he was shooting at and luckily I found his work after the show, I’ve spoke with him briefly and he was really great, I love his use of black and white film photography and street photography, work is really inspiring to me and I hope I can be as good as him one day.
