Meet photographer Alex Bond as we talk cameras, Liverpool art, and his photography inspirations.

This month we've been in touch with Southport College photography student, Alex Bond. As we talk about all things being a photographer in Liverpool, dream photographers to meet and Alex gives his camera recommendations to those who may need it. Hey Alex, please can you give a quick introduction on who you are, what you do and where you're based for anyone who isn't aware?

My name is Alex Bond I am a up-and-coming photographer from Liverpool specialising in portrait, day-to-day life, documentary photography and recently I have been dipping in and out of the music scene within Liverpool I normally shoot fashion style shoots capturing the clothing and subject I am based in a town outside of Liverpool called Southport a seaside Victorian town littered with street art and graffiti where I capture my inspiration from.

How long have you been doing photography?

My eyes have been Photography based since a young age with my mum's introduction of her old Pentax film camera it wasn’t till high school where the passion reignited my aim this year is to invest within a better camera set up to promote my images at a higher quality and make it easier to shoot. Pentax is still the system I shoot with now on a digitilased format however, I would love to continue experimenting with film.

How does photography and taking photos make you feel?

Feels like I’m pushing things forward makes me happy to be involved even if it’s at a friend level I gain inspiration from a lot of different things and people and sometimes it can just be a neutral mood however after planning the shoot feels so rewarding.

What's your favourite part outside of the actual photography?

I really enjoy to Edit my images after feels like the post drags for some people for what I hear so I try to make it interesting individually editing, unless batch is needed.

What kind of equipment are you currently using?

I shoot on a couple hand held film cameras buy mainly my digital Pentax right now.

Would you recommend the digital Pentax to others?

Yeah it’s a older model but the sentimental value to me is more until I invest in a better DSLR.

And what's the photography goal for you?

My main goal is to gain a greater following wether that be more work gig or fashion wise to better my overall quality and quantity of images I would love to take photography on as my career and see where that takes me within the vast industry of fashion music and culture imagery.

For sure, have you got anything lined up this year?

Not many big things unfortunately however I am working alongside a brand called Cloudland, hopefully for that to push me into the light as a photographer my final year at college has me tied down right now.

Sounds sick! If you could have a photography session with anyone in the world, who you you choose?

I would love to work alongside talent in London such as Jarrad Carlin and Simon Wheatley, to gain a insight into there overall process they both work with film so it would be a learning process getting into that itself.

That would be amazing, do you think Liverpool and the area you’re currently in is beneficial for photographers?

Yeah, it’s a amazing city with many many talented individuals within it my area however, not so much I feel it’s so much beneficial practical wise however, for inspiration on a good walk it’s great.

100% Liverpool definitely has some super good opportunities, we just need to search for them! Do you have any advice for anyone trying to get into photography?

Go to events, talk and ask anything, a question can't hurt. Try, try, and try, remember that failure is a path to success.
