Earlier this month, Wireless announced that they would be dropping this year's three-day festival line-up as they took to Twitter on January 6th and said “WE HEARD YOU - LINEUP DROPPING THIS MONTH” and after a few of the same “turn on post notifications” type tweets they posted a few emojis giving clues on the headliner acts. The emojis were a fire, a cactus, a bear, and a vampire, as well as the numbers two and nine on a separate tweet. After this tweet came out, a lot of the fans were saying D-Block Europe as Young Adz goes by the name ‘BandoBaby29”. Followed by Travis Scott speculations, due to the fire and cactus emoji, linking to Cactus Jack, and the bear emoji with the vampire is said to have been PLAYBOICARTI. Of which have now all been confirmed headliners on each of the days for the event.
On January 23rd, their first batch of Saturday and VIP tickets was released and sold out in a matter of minutes, which led them to release their second batch. After releasing another video for the headliners, adding three different phone numbers from different areas to a group chat, followed with them all typing a message as follows “oMG I cAN nOT wAIT!”, “It’s LIT”, and “We outsider y’narm sayinn”. Confirming the previous speculations about the emojis in the earlier tweets.
As lineup release day came around, imjustbait an Instagram account with over 4 million followers allegedly leaked the lineup as a member of the public had replied to the Wireless Twitter account and the festival replied with “Erm …” followed by a video starring some of the trendiest YouTube influencers, with the likes of Yung Filly, Nella Rose, Kenny Allstar, Darkest Man, Henrie Viii, and Nadia Jae. Looking back on the alleged leaks, it’s very clever marketing from them as it got the public talking more than it would have if Wireless were just to release a list of the line-up. However, once the lineup was announced a lot of the fans had things to say about it, for example, “Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s still Sunday tickets available on the day of the festival”, “Sunday for sure ain’t getting lit”, “that Sunday lineup fucking stinks”, “Dbe shouldn’t be headlining they shouldn’t even be there”, so it is evident that a lot of the fans are hating on the Sunday acts but that’s not their only problem. A lot of the feedback comments are asking where the females are as there aren’t too many and are male dominant from what is currently shown as there are comments like “Where is sza…” and “Literally no female leads?”.
However, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this festival being male dominant as in 2020, only six female acts were on the lineup and Singer Mahalia wasn't very happy as she tweeted “with all the female artists out there, y’all really made another dick fest line up ???? I’m tired.”, compared to 2018 when there were only three women on the lineup all weekend and with all of the backlash they had received that year, the festival announced that they had plans for an all-female stage, however, the females shouldn't have been so isolated on their own stage and this shouldn't have had to have been a resolution in the first place.
