We take a look back at some of the most popular songs from January and rate them from one to five in terms of our genuine opinions of the songs. Talking about fans online opinions of the tracks with their own tweets, our opinions on Krept and Konans rap return and the visual level of M1llionz.
1. Martins Sofa - Headie One
As Headie dropped this highly anticipated track, led Headie to appear in the top 100 singles charts for the twenty-seventh time as it ended release week at number nine and the last time he reached this high in the charts was eleven songs ago with ‘Ain’t It Different’. Fans have said that the rollout for the song was incredible and the results of the track were well deserved. Others are suggesting that the sofa from the video should be a part of a museum exhibition and some are even asking for a replica of the sofa to buy for themselves. This track has got the fans going WILD.
2. Dat Way - Krept & Konan Feat. Abra Cadabra
This track had fans going crazy this month as a few people weren’t liking it as much as they expected when they heard word play legends Krept and Konan were making a return. As Krept took to Instagram on January 1st with a photo alongside Konan and Abra Cadabra, with a caption reading “Do you think we can top robbery?”, of course their hit ‘Robbery (Remix)” featuring the duo. Back in 2016, this tune was top of the rap scene for sure, as seven years later it is still remembered and currently stands on twenty-eight million YouTube views, so this new track needed to be spectacular to even come close to this track.
As this was Krept and Konans return track after a three year hiatus there was a high anticipation about them returning so when fans were made aware of their return, they went crazy on the socials - becoming even better when it was shown Abra was also a part of the track, however since the track was released, the love for the track have become very clear as the YouTube comments are full of positive messages, to just list a few “this tune makes me wanna go do a madness outside! Swear down. I need to go church after listening to it.”, “Krept’s one of the most unique flows”, “Who possessed Abra to deliver this verse?!”.
3. Dave Flow - Fredo
This month we saw Fredo make his first 2023 appearance with the track ‘Dave Flow’, inspired by Santan Dave, whom we had seen through the music video. We’ve all seen Dave and Fredo on several tracks in the scene, such as “Funky Friday”, “All I Ever Wanted”, “Money Talks” and “In The Fire”. Without Dave even making a rap appearance on this track, it shows us another side to their friendship that we never knew we needed. We’ve heard about this famous friendship duo in Fredo’s earlier track “Biggest Mistake” when he said “You know what’s funny as well? (What?) Before I met Santan Dave, I met his brother in jail, I never knew and his brother didn’t tell (For real?) Who would have thought me and his brother would sell? Number one in the charts, I used to be number one in the dark, dark”. Dave was also the Executive Producer of the project “Money Can’t Buy Happiness”, in 2022.
The track reached position thirty in the charts and had racked up 1.6 million YouTube views. With some amazing feedback in the comments, such as, “Fred is too cold with it, the visuals and lyrics go craazy, can’t wait for the fire he’s about to drop this year”, “Can’t lie this is the most I’ve seen Fredo smile! It’s a vibe still just goes to show he’s happy where he is in life now. But I will say this Fredo has always stayed true to himself, he’s never made a single commercial song and he still rakes it in '' and, “Levels every time, been following since get rich or get recalled, so mad how far you come, respect”.
4. 4 Of Us - Clavish
After the release of ‘Rap Game Awful’, Clavish hit the streets with track 11 ‘4 Of Us’ with rappers Youngs Teflon, Rimzee and Tiny Boost. It’s arguably some peoples favourite track on the album with bars and real rap. Opening with Youngs Teflon and Rimzee, with immediate bars like “Mummy raised a good yute, but I’m bad like my surname Jackson” obviously referencing Micheal Jackson and his hit song and album ‘Bad’ and line “Pocket full of sweets, these ain’t Haribos or Skittles”, referencing sweets as bullets.
This song went big on the socials as it was just so hard. People saying it was easily the song of the year so far, others comparing it to Daves ‘In The Fire’ as it’s just “Couple man coming together to body a riddem”. Some also say that it’s harder than ‘Martins Sofa’. The track was also Calvish’s 8th appearance in the top 100 singles charts, being the first entry from Rimzee, Youngs Teflon and Tiny Boost.
5. Right Dere - M1llionz
‘Right Dere’ definitely deserves visuals of the month with the music video to this perfectly crafted tune. As the video is shot in Africa with several cultural scenes, through the communities and out in the sticks but on a deeper level, his telling all of his ops to shut up and is full of constant threats towards family homes and sends threats to people's mums as he lets everyone know he is very much aware of where his ops families are and says “So if that’s still the case, don’t talk like that”. With the visuals in consideration too, M1llionz is definitely a problem, in the scene and on roads.
The visuals and the bars definitely got the recognition it deserved in the comments as people were saying “One of the few artists in the UK who is thinking outside the box with their visuals”, “That’s what happens when you take time off and come back with quality. Many artists got bag of tracks and videos, which are repetitive and the videos don’t make sense.. But Millionz is different; he thinks outside the box videos are always on point.” and, “Yeah this is the hardest music video I’ve seen in a very LONG time. I think it’s down to every other rapper to play catch up now, m1llionz #1”.
