We currently know Maya Jama for her presenting role on the reality TV show 'Love Island', however, the superstar presenter has been around for years, join us as we take a look at her hard work and dedication towards different roles in her career.
Jama's career started back when she was just a teenager, working to present a weekly music countdown on 'JumpOffTV', of which helped her go on to host on TRACE Sports, allowing her to host 'Maya's FIFA World Cup Cities' for Copa90. These travel vlog styled interviews and presenting skills were broadcasted on COPA90 Football channel, and now have over one hundred thousand views on each video, with the comments being full of lovely messasges. People from all around the world had their eyes on what Maya was doing at such a young age.
After the FIFA series, Maya became a household name when she joined MTV and started presenting The Wrap Up in 2014, within the same year Jama also started her radio presenting career on BBC Radio 1.
During her time on the radio, Maya started appearing on TV a lot more, as in 2017 she had hosted the Pre-Brit Awards Party, featuring a livestream online and a red carpet event that same year. She was then seen co-hosting Saturday night game show 'Cannonball' on ITV alongside Radzi Chinyanganya, Ryan Hand, Andrew Flintoff, and Frankie Bridge. 'Cannonball' started and finished in 2017 with only eight episodes, the show was a physical circuit and had four stages to participate in, with eliminations revealing a winner. The show then returned in 2022 with a US Spin with different presenters.
It was very clear to everyone that Maya had the hosting ability everyone wanted, as she went on to become the youngest person to co-host the MOBO Awards at the age of twenty-three, alongside JLS star Marvin Humes. Leaving her to co-host the first series of 'The Circle' in 2018 and worked on hosting Stand Up To Cancer with Alan Carr and Adam Hills in 2018.
Of course, anyone that wanted to make TV shows at the time, knew that they had to do something to involve Maya as she just made the TV shows work, she was the missing piece that everyone at the time needed. Evident as she then landed a team captain role on ITV2 rap panel show 'Don't Hate the Playaz' in 2018, with London Hughes, Lady Leshurr, and Jordan Stephens, as they competed in different rounds, creating one team the winners.
While all of the TV shows were being aired, Jama still had her radio slots on Friday's and Saturday Mornings via BBC Radio 1. During May of 2020, she had come out and said that she had made the "difficult decision" to not continue her radio contract, adding that she had "exciting commitments later in the year" and wasn't able to "dedicate the time needed to her show". The public and weekly listeners had wished her the best for the future and Maya had left that role full of love and ready to commit to other adventures.
Which brings us to a more recent time, Jama has now released a few brands for herself, one being MIJ Masks, face masks and eye patches to sooth the skin. The product features in stores like Harvey Nichols, with two in each box to strengthen skin. We can see Maya all over social medias with glowing skin so we know she's got some of the best skin care products in the game.
We also now know her best for being the host of the last few seasons of Love Island following Laura Whitmore's exit on the show. This was revealed at the end of 2022 as she was set to host the ninth series in January, taking place in South Africa. When announced, Jama had said in a statement that she's always been such a massive fan of the show and that she's excited to host one of the nations favourite shows.
Maya Jama continues to be a UK favourite and we cannot wait to see what she does next!
